Need some expert advice or brainstorming on the spot? I meet you in your yard and you can pick my brain for 1 or 2 hours. Great service if you like help in changing a few planting beds or finally took down that dead birch and are at loss what to do with the empty space.
What to expect once you’ve purchased your Design package.
At the time of your purchase you will be asked to upload the following information:
Your Real Property Report (the lot plan you get when you buy your house). It facilitates the drawing process and has vital information about grading, property lines, utility right of ways, etc. Please check this RPR document to see if there are Restrictive Covenants listed
There is a questionnaire to get you and your family started on sorting out your needs, your preferences and your priorities.
We create a Photo document. In the document you will upload photos of your yard and I can comment on the photos and add photos with suggested ideas. If you have inspiration photos from other yards or have found landscaping photos in magazines or on the internet that you like, I would like to see those too.
When all the information is received I start working on your Concept Plan. I process all your information, look at problematic areas and consider your preferences and needs. With that I create a comprehensive basic lay out for your yard, suggesting how to address issues like drainage or privacy, where to create points of interest or how to deal with your slope. This includes an hour discussion of the plan
The Design Happens with Your Participation
We meet for about an at Holes Greenhouses and review the concept of your design. We talk about all options and I will guide you through a design process that includes: traffic flow fencing, sitting spaces, color preferences, style choices, retaining walls, fire pits, etc.
This part of the process will leave you with a Basic Plan for your yard. For some people that is enough to get going.
Most clients prefer a more detailed plan, what will take some more time to finish details
The Plan and Extra Information
At the end of our meeting I will let you know how much more time it will take me to finish all the details of your plan. An average front yard usually takes an additional 1–3 hours while an average backyard usually takes an additional 3–4 hours to finish all the details. Acreages are naturally a bit more. This includes the final presentation of the finished plan.
You are in charge, let me know what your priorities are and I will work within the agreed budget.
When your design plan is finished, you will receive a hand draw, colored design. It will include a selection of hardy plants that emphasize shape, size, texture, and seasonal interest. Your plan will include general planting and care instructions.
On request I can provide an Additional Power Point Presentation with an overview of all the plants in your plan, their features and specific care and pruning instructions. Usually it will take an additional 1 to 2 hours to create the presentation
When the plan is ready, I invite you to my office at Hole’s Greenhouses where we will sit down to make sure you understand all the details. We will discuss what material to use for mulching, edging, paving or decks and I can give the pros and cons for each. The final decision what you will use, is dependent on your preference and your budget.
We’ll also discuss how best to proceed with the installation. Whether you want to Do-It-Yourself or have a landscaper take care of the installation, I can give you suggestions based on decades of experience and that will save you a lot of experimentation and money! Afterwards, you can proceed with getting quotes and installation.
My designs are hand drawn. Most drawings are on a scale of a quarter inch to a foot. After learning computer drawing and working with it for a while, I found that drawing by hand gives a more direct interaction with my clients and a better feel of the flow of the design. It is easy to adjust at the spot and you see the details filling in at the time we meet to discuss your concept plan. Fully finished designs are colored, to make it more easy to understand and visualize.
